{"id":9,"date":"2005-12-02T21:43:00","date_gmt":"2005-12-02T21:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carlwarnick.com\/blog\/?p=9"},"modified":"2010-03-23T02:57:31","modified_gmt":"2010-03-23T02:57:31","slug":"fumed-at-polvo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carlwarnick.com\/blog\/2005\/12\/02\/fumed-at-polvo\/","title":{"rendered":"FUMED at Polvo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.polvo.org\/dec05.htm\">FUMED<\/a> opened at Polvo tonight.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=2 src=\"http:\/\/pa.ath.cx\/reviews\/nino-crowd-5.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"239\"><br \/>\nThe curator Jaime Mendoza had this to say:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\"  border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"20\">\n<tr>\n<td>The participating artists have either practiced Graffiti for creative pursuits or have been influenced through contemporary urban culture.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>Nino Rodriguez&#8217;s small paintings, especially the one pictured above center; have an elegant sense of line and color, which contrasts well with their somewhat brutal lyrical content.<br \/>\nIn a mini-installation parallel to the Graffiti show Marcella Chaidez presented a wonderful sculpture resembling a small bustier with umbilical cord constructed out of dyed blue holes punched from books. Which of course raises the question, which books?<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=2 src=\"http:\/\/pa.ath.cx\/reviews\/marcella-chaidez-detail.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\"><br \/>\nIt is perhaps more proper to say that the sculpture resembles the shell of a torso, a shell representing a small child. However my first thought was bustier. That thought, mistaken as it might be, is infecting my read.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=2 src=\"http:\/\/pa.ath.cx\/reviews\/marcella-chaidez-full.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"700\"><br \/>\nThe thing about these blue punched paper holes is that they look like sequins. They look like sequins a lot! They also appear to be fused to the body. What we are left imagining is a child beauty pageant fire which fuses a blue sequin dress to a pageant model. Any critique which reaches Michael Jackson is then automatically complete.<\/p>\n<p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FUMED opened at Polvo tonight.
